Western Connecticut Orienteering Club (WCOC)
Winter 2019 Training Series
For the second year, HVO and WCOC are pleased to host a series of six bare-bones, time-yourself orienteering races this winter. Each event offers a Brown, Green and Red course, and participants download the maps from a link posted on this site. Control flags will be out in the woods for about four weeks. You run whenever you want while the flags are out. The races are honor system based with no boxes/punches on the controls, just touch the flag (no remote visual punching).
Training #4, #5, and #6 are currently available
Markers are in the woods and the maps are available for download. Training #4 is available and has been extended until March 23 at Westmoreland in Mt. Kisco, NY. Training #5 has also been extended to March 31 and is at Huntington State Park in Redding, CT. Training #6 is at Pound Ridge in NY and will be available until April 7. A link to the maps, and additional info, can be found here. You can see any results that people post on the event AttackPoint page.
When and Where
In case of major snow falls, revised dates may be considered and posted.
How
Maps will be available for downloading on HVO's website (the link is at the top of this page) beginning the day before the controls are in the woods.
Results and Ranking
Participants time themselves and subsequently upload their results directly to the respective Attackpoint.org event pages. Posting splits and GPS tracks are preferred, but not required.
Important
By entering these events and agreeing to the conditions above each participant in any or all of the Winter Series events assume full responsibility for any and all injuries, losses and other damages that he or she incurs while attending or participating in the Winter Series events.

Spring 2019 Event Schedule
Unless otherwise noted, participants can register and begin at any time between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Control flags are collected beginning at 2:00 p.m. (participants must finish the course by this time). Free instruction is available at all meets. If you would like instruction, please arrive before 11 a.m. (it's also a good idea to tell the meet director in advance that you'd like some training). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact the meet director.
Some meets include sprint courses, which are about 2 to 3 km with a mix of beginner to advanced controls over more runnable terrain than in typical advanced courses.
